In the dark of the night a man walks through the dirty streets of the city, the noise of the busy city surround him. Making his way through the streets that disgust him so a masked man looks upon a skyscraper. The date is October 12th, 1985 and tonight a comedian died in New York. A hero is defined as a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. An antihero is a protagonist who lacks the attributes that make a heroic figure, as nobility of mind and spirit, a life or attitude marked by action or purpose, and the like. The Watchmen movie is based on the comic book series created by Alan Moore, highly praised it is featured on Times List of 100 Best Novels. The Watchmen film features an array of heroes that are not really heroes; they exemplify the characteristics of being antiheroes. Watchmen shows an interesting take on heroism through the actions of its antiheroes Rorschach, The Comedian, and Dr. Manhattan. Before WWII masked vigilante s emerged creating an alternate universe where heroes exist and alter the events in history. The movie is set in the 1980 s where Richard Nixon is serving his fifth term as President, masked vigilantes are made illegal, and the world is on the edge of nuclear war.
